Goran Stojčetović (1975) is an artist whose years of growing up and youth spent in Kosovo and Metohija (The Autonomous Province of the Republic of Serbia within the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia), filled with nationalist divisions and violence, alcoholism, street fights, rebellious behavior during painting studies at the Faculty of Arts in Priština, the NATO bombing in 1999 and beinga refugee, had a decisive influence on his life and creativity. That's why,despite his academic education, he found his artistic expression in art brut, from the moment he experienced a vision in which, in 2013, after two days of heavy drinking, he saw the sentence: "Goran Stojčetović does not existanymore. Only art brut, no more running away." After that, he founded and led the Art Brut Serbia Association until 2024, when he transformed the association into the Center for Depth Art. At the same time, he defined his entire artistic work and research with the term he coined as Depth Art. Through his personal artistic practice, he developed a special drawing technique that he called Depth Drawing. Since 2015, when he founded the Art brut studio VMA,he has been practicing Depth Drawing workshops within the regular treatment of patients of the Day Hospital of the Psychiatry Clinic of the Military MedicalAcademy in Belgrade. Also, through depth drawing workshops, he worked with alarge number of different people in different places throughout Serbia and Kosovo and Metohija, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Franceand Belgium. He owns a unique collection of marginal art of about 2000 works.
Amongthe numerous exhibitions, workshops, performances and panels that he organizedor participated in, he singles out the following:
· He is one of the organizers andexhibitors at the large group exhibition "Turbulences in the Balkans"at the Halle Saint Pierre Museum, Paris (2017/18).
· He is the co-author of the conceptand one of the exhibitors at the large group exhibition of the Serbian andCroatian contemporary marginal art scene, "Dream catchers", at theMuseum of Contemporary Art Zagreb (2020), as well as at the Museum of Naive andMarginal Art in Jagodina (2022/23).
· He is the artistic director of theproject "Art Brut: Other? Europe", within European Capital of CultureNovi Sad 2022.
· He held a depth drawing workshop anda presentation of his work in the two-day event "The Depth Art of GoranStojčetović" at the Cultural Center of Serbia in Paris, 2022.
· He is one of the exhibitors at theexhibition "Hidden Worlds Expanding: Eastern European Outsider Art",within European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024.
· He is one of the exhibitors at thelarge exhibition "Activity: 100 years of Surrealism" at the Museum ofContemporary Art in Belgrade, 2024/25. As part of the exhibition, he held adepth drawing workshop with visitors.
· At the invitation of the scientificjournal of the Cambridge University - Epidemiology and Psychiatric Sciences,Section of Contemporary Outsider Art, he publishes the author's text "TheRoots of the Concept of Depth Art", in 2024.
· He won the "Joakim Vujić"Award for the Best Scenography at the Festival of Professional Theaters ofSerbia, Vranje in 2020.
· He is the winner of the SpeciallyNoted Award at the Third Triennial "Raw Intuitive", at Museum ofNaive and Marginal Art in Jagodina, 2022.
Hisworks are in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb (HR),Museum of Naive and Marginal Art in Jagodina (RS), Muzeum Slaskie (PL), KondaseCenter (EE), Art Brut Center La "S" Grand Atelier in Vielsalm (BE),as well as in many private collections.
Employedas a scenographer at the National Theater of Priština with temporaryheadquarters in Gračanica, Kosovo and Metohija.
